VISION

About US: Vision

Vision Statement of the Salesian Province of New Delhi

We, the Salesians of the Province of New Delhi, spread in the vast and predominantly pluri-cultural and multi-religious States of North India, see ourselves entering the third millennium inspired by the Salesian charism and united as one family to work for the education and evangelization of the young, especially the poor and abandoned, to strengthen the faith of our Christian communities, and to promote the development of the socially deprived and marginalized people. We seek to accomplish this through personal witness, living radically our discipleship of Jesus and communion among ourselves, and collaboration with the local ordinary, other religious congregations and groups, and especially members of the Salesian Family. Fully recognizing the proper vocation of the laity, we share with all our lay collaborators our spirit and mission by organizing moments of reflection and formation together to lead them to greater participation in our apostolic ventures and programmes. In this way we become signs and bearers of the love of God in imitation of Jesus the Good Shepherd.

We realize our Vision

As a Province:

By building a sense of community; becoming self-reliant in personnel and material resources through consolidation rather than expansion of our works; being more open to inter-provincial, congregational and inter-congregational collaboration; and giving priority to the training and qualification of personnel, particularly in the field of formation.

As local communities:

By building a sense of communion among members; expanding and deepening our collaboration with laity, clergy and religious of the local Church; taking time to plan and evaluate our activities; and being guided and animated by competent and dedicated rectors.

As individuals:

By deepening and enriching our humanity through qualities of heart and mind; growing in our Salesian identity by fostering a sense of belonging to the Congregation, a deeper knowledge of Don Bosco and Salesian traditions, and a greater pastoral commitment; becoming more spiritual by journeying more deeply into the mystery of the Triune God; and being professionally competent through ongoing formation and training.

Provincial Speaks

The Province of Good Shepherd, New Delhi, has completed just 11 years. Our strength is 14 regular houses and 10 presences with 160 confreres. The geographical area under our care is very vast : 12 states and one Union Territory, where the youth in significant numbers are illiterate and poor, and the total Catholic population is a mere 0.4% that is 2 million.

We are aware that, with our present limited human and material resources, we may not be able to reach out to big numbers, but, as mother Teresa would say, we believe that, though we are but a drop in the ocean, still, if that drop is not there, the ocean is not full. We do wish to make a difference where we are present by being ‘Salt and Light’. We interpret the location of the Provincial House in the capital of the nation as a God-given exposure demanding great vocational responsibility. We feel indeed like the biblical ‘city on the mountain tip’ called to bear witness to Don Bosco and his spirit in an authentic way.
