Don Bosco School

The School presently has a total strength of 2300 students ranging from Pre – Primary to Std XII. It has maintained a high academic standard. Besides, in keeping with the best of Salesian Traditions, the school has had co-curricular activities in plenty for the school kids as well as for the other schools. The School has installed the Quality Management System (QMS) and Environmental Management System (EMS) to ensure complete satisfaction of the students and their parents. The school is ISO certified. It is recognized by the Directorate of Education, Delhi State and affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi. (Affiliation No. 27382). Recently, the school has introduced a new methodology of teaching for the primary school. It is known as Parishar Asha developed by an educational group from Mumbai. This system shifts the focus of teaching and learning from mere memorization of lesson to developing in students the ability to think and to look at answers from different angles.

Ankur : (Evening School – For Underprivileged Children)

One of the notable achievements of the community at Alaknanda has been the inauguration of the evening school, Don Bosco Ankur, in October 1998 under the initiative of the Principal, Fr. George Tharayil. About 320 children from the nearby slums come to the school in the afternoon after the regular school is over. They are taught in different groups. All writing materials and text books, food, uniforms, shoes etc. are sponsored by parents of morning session children. Seven teachers are given renumeration, while one, Ms. Seema Singhal, is honorary full time coordinator.

Outreach

The School takes special care for the economically and socially weaker sections of the society through outreach programmes like Ankur – Don Bosco, Don Bosco Ashalayam and Don Bosco Najafgarh.

Provincial Speaks

The Province of Good Shepherd, New Delhi, has completed just 11 years. Our strength is 14 regular houses and 10 presences with 160 confreres. The geographical area under our care is very vast : 12 states and one Union Territory, where the youth in significant numbers are illiterate and poor, and the total Catholic population is a mere 0.4% that is 2 million.

We are aware that, with our present limited human and material resources, we may not be able to reach out to big numbers, but, as mother Teresa would say, we believe that, though we are but a drop in the ocean, still, if that drop is not there, the ocean is not full. We do wish to make a difference where we are present by being ‘Salt and Light’. We interpret the location of the Provincial House in the capital of the nation as a God-given exposure demanding great vocational responsibility. We feel indeed like the biblical ‘city on the mountain tip’ called to bear witness to Don Bosco and his spirit in an authentic way.
